About the Business

The alpaca business became a reality in the United States in 1984 with the import of Alpacas from the Andes Mountains in South America. Ever since then the business has blossomed due to several factors. A major one is that there can no longer be imports of alpacas. This controls the market and also prevents undesirable animals from being imported to the US. As of today, every alpaca is registered with ARI (The Alpaca Registry), also each alpaca has a microchip implanted behind their ear and that number is also registered. It is a great system. There are no surprises when you acquire an alpaca. ARI does a great job.

At this stage of the industry's development, price is directly related to the individual breeding potential and the potential quality of the offspring. Female prices are a reflection of quality, age, breeding history and to which stud male she is mated. Females can be worth anything from several thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars.

Alpacas provide an excellent investment opportunity and there is currently a very favorable tax structure for the breeding of alpacas. Ask Alan or your accountant. They are the source of luxurious fiber and the fleece, comparable to cashmere, is known for its fineness, light weight, and luster. Alpaca textile products are recognized world-wide. History relates them to the fiber of kings. Everyone should own a soft, warm alpaca sweater.

Here at Fab Ulous Alpacas we strive for making the Alpaca industry a better one with an increase of profitability. Feel free to ask us any questions you want and let us help design the proper program for you that will fit into your needs and future ambitions.
